Stage 1 Remap on a Ford Focus RS
The Ford Focus RS came into Southwest Performance due to the customer being unable to restart the car after driving it not long before. When turning the key the dash flashed the check engine light, and after an initial visit to the local Ford Dealership, we were asked to help.
The Core Issue
After carrying out a diagnostic on the Focus RS, we found there to be an issue with the Engine Control Unit otherwise known as the ECU. Further investigation revealed the ECU to be fried. The electrical current had come from the starter motor through the failed earth strap, causing the ECU to fry.
Solving the Issue
As the ECU was completely defective we needed to source a new ECU to carry out a Focus RS Remap, however to keep costs down we found a working second hand one which we fully tested before use.
Once we were happy with the ECU we began the Ford Focus RS Remap process. The customer asked for a stage 1 remap, this upgraded the car from 300 horse power or hp to 350 hp and from 440 nm or torque to 540 nm.
How Much this Stage 1 Focus RS Remap cost
After carrying out a diagnostic, finding and replacing the burnt earth lead from the battery to the body, replacing and testing the new ECU, remapping this ECU to a stage 1 Focus RS Remap and finally test driving the car, the bill came to £700.
